The evolution of the Human Conscience
Part of Andrew Inglis Clark Collection
This appears to be an expansion of a newspaper article or letter on "the evolution of altruism by Mr Justice Clark", 1903. There are three drafts in three exercise books, all including some sections cut from a newspaper and corrected. The first draft includes the title in newsprint "the evolution of altruism" and a closing paragraph "yours sincerely A. I. Clark, Hobart, Easter 1903". The other two are both entitled, ms, "the evolution of the human conscience". The third draft appears to be the longest and most complete.
No.21 - Also includes exam questions for "theory of law and government, political science, Justice Clark examiner" and another exam untitled. Also a draft letter (?in a different hand) to the University Board of Studies requesting a supplementary exam in maths for B.Sc

Part of George Musgrave Parker : Correspondence and research records
A copy of an extract from Dr Story's diary, the original dating from November 1855, the copy taken by Mrs Collins Amos of Glen Gala in 1929. The diary entry concerns the apprehension of the bushranger 'Dido', who had assaulted Story and Mrs and Miss Cotton while travelling. Earlier on, Dido and a companion had confronted the police constable J Watson, and stolen his horse. With Mr Fergusson, Story assisted Watson in apprehending Dido, an action Story felt entitled him to part of the government reward offered for Dido's capture.

The Tasmanian Club, Macquarie Street, Hobart
Part of Walker Family Papers
Photograph of the Tasmanian Club formally the Derwent Bank, and Walch's building with a landau outside. The Tasmanian Club is a Georgian style building designed by architect James Alexander Thomson and built in 1846 for banker and merchant Captain Charles Swanston as the Derwent Bank. After the depression of the 1840's the Bank went into liquidation and the building was bought by the Tasmania Club in April 1873 and is still their residence today. The Tasmanian Club was established in 1861 in Hobart by seventy gentlemen. It was founded on the 'London pattern', that is, election or exclusion of candidates by ballot. The photographers are Anson Brothers whose firm was located in Liverpool, Collins and Elizabeth Streets between 1878 and 1891.
